Forklift Classifications
Below are the classes of forklifts which describe the use and fuel option of every kind of forklift. Certification is needed for each class of forklift that the operator will be using.
Class 1 - Electric Motor Rider Trucks
These forklifts are available with either cushion tires or pneumatic tires. Pneumatic tires are recommended during dry conditions for outdoor application. The cushion tired models are made for indoor surfaces which are smooth. These are electrically powered vehicles that utilize industrial batteries, that make them desirable in closed environments where the quality of air is an issue. Hoist functions and travel are controlled by transistor motor controllers. These are versatile units usually used everywhere from the loading dock to the storage facility.
Class 2 - Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Trucks
For the type of environment where narrow aisles should be negotiated, this specific type of forklift is suitable. They are effective at maximizing the use of storage space. Their unique design makes them ideal for small spaces and where speed is required.
Class 3 - Electric Motor Hand or Hand-Rider Trucks
These hand-controlled, battery-powered models are intended for the operator to stand in front of the truck and operate the lift with a steering tiller. The tiller has controls mounted on top and is moved sideways in order to maneuver the vehicle. The units which have smaller capacity utilize industrial batteries.
