The lift truck is an important piece of equipment in most companies which operate distribution centers, warehouses, industrial and storage handling plants. This great machine, the forklift is made of various parts, such as the essential carriage, the power source, the engine and the wheels. Forklifts usually have a variety of attachments also. The following are several of the most essential forklift parts.
Engine of the Lift Truck - the lift truck is designed with a power source at the back of the machinery. Different kinds of lift trucks have various kinds of engine which need varying power sources. For example, a forklift with an IC engine could have as its power source any of the following: diesel, gasoline, CNG gas or LP gas. Electric motor forklifts receive their power from a battery or fuel cells.
Frame of The Truck - The truck frame is the base of the lift truck and the most essential of all the lift truck parts. This forms the machine's core. All other parts of a forklift are connected to the base, like for instance the mast, wheels, axles counterweight and overhead guard. Hydraulic fluid and fuel tanks could also be part of the frame assembly.
Counterweight Forklift Components - the counterweight is what allows the equipment to be balanced while carrying heavy cargo. This part is made of heavy cast iron and is connected to the rear-end of the forklift truck. The counterbalance balances the truck frame in order to prevent it from tipping over when a load is being lifted or carried on the front. In an electric forklift, the heavy lead-acid battery offers balance and may function as part of the counterweight.
The Cab Area - this part is where the operator sits and drives the machine. Some forklifts have a cab area that is open to the air and several have closed cabs. There are really many components located in the cab for operating the forks. The cab contains such important parts like for example the steering wheel, operator controls, seats, pedals, switches and levers. The dashboard contains operator readouts.
