Lift Truck Parts in More Detail
There are numerous parts that make up a lift truck. The forklifts main components include the frame of the truck, the engine components, the tilt cylinders, the overhead guard and the wheels. Furthermore, a lift truck has different kinds of attachments. All the components that make up a lift truck are of equal importance as they work together to make the equipment's operation possible. The following paragraphs describe some of the lift truck parts in detail.
The Overhead Guard - The overhead guard is really the forklifts metal roof, which sits atop the operator cab. It's job is to protect the operator while they are using the equipment. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck will damage the controls inside the cab or injure the driver. The overhead guard is vital to the frame assembly on some models.
The Mast - the mast is a vertical assembly made of interlocking rails and mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle. The mast provides lateral stability and allows the forks to move upwards and downwards. The interlocking rails can either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast could be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Forklift Carriage - The carriage is the component which the forks and various other attachments are mounted to. The carriage is in fact directly attached to the hydraulic cylinder and is attached by chains. To be able to enable the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage can have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack that prevents a load from falling backwards while the carriage is raised to its full height. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.
Forklift Attachments - There are numerous types of attachments that can be fixed directly to the lift truck's carriage. Forks are the most common attachment. Furthermore, there are rollers, rotators, L-shaped members, pole handlers, roll clamps and so forth. These different attachments are useful for moving various kinds of loads.
