A stock picker, also referred to as an order picker is a machine that is quite similar to a forklift. It enables the operator to utilize forks to pick up a pallet. An order picker is also capable of lifting the operator up to higher shelves for picking certain objects, and this feature is something the forklift does not provide. Normally, order pickers are operated by electricity. These kind of machinery are mainly used in a warehouse setting. Usually they are used for moving pallets and finishing particular tasks in the stocking and shelving department.
The operator of the oder picker sits up on a platform where they operate the controls. These controls help to direct the machinery backwards, forwards or steer it from side to side. When the operator has positioned the unit in place the tines could be raised to the required level which makes it very convenient for the operator. Like for example, if the required materials, are situated on a shelf that the operator cannot reach, then whole platform could be lifted up to certain level. Due to the counterweight located at the other end, the unit remains balanced, even at higher levels.
After the order has been picked, the platform is lowered back to its original position. Then the order picker could be driven to its next load. With the majority of models, it is possible to move the order picker whilst the platform is raised, however, several companies may have procedures and policies in place preventing such maneuvers for safety reasons. An order picker can also put pallets on a shelf. Stackers and forklifts may be utilized to finish these particular tasks at several companies instead.
