Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are made of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, linked up to create an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is raised vertically. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges to be able to keep the employees safe and help to secure their tools.
Scissor lifts provide a low profile that is great for hard dirt surfaces, concrete and pavement. These machinery use either an electric motor or a combustion engine in order to power the lifting apparatus and move the lift. The operator must move the lift itself if she or he needs to travel horizontally, as the lift apparatus just operates the lift in a vertical way.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts utilize the identical lifting technology as a regular scissor lift. The main difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base that is specifically designed for surfaces which are uneven. These models also offer oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive in order to navigate through muddy and difficult terrain with no trouble.
Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift uses a telescoping beam which elevates both diagonally and vertically. This specific unit has a small work platform which houses controls in order to operate the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics which power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift model and has off-road capable tires.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are attached with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting machinery has a bucket or a small work platform that is equipped with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts which are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are available with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are designed to be able to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast so as to lift a work platform vertically into the air. Usually, these lifts are electrically powered or pneumatic powered and are self-propelled machinery. These machines offer a great solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is essential to remember that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road use.
